years after his death, the case of oscar grant was back in court this morning. ktvu's brian flores joins us live from outside of the courthouse in san francisco to explain what was at stake. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: hey, good afternoon, tori. well, what was at stake today was a civil case. but there was no decision made today here inside san francisco federal court. on the case of johannes mehserle and other officers involved in the shooting of oscar grant during a new year's party a few years ago. now, attorneys for anthony p. eroni and johannes mehserle argued they should be offered immunity because they argued the shooting was an accident. they also say it was tragic but there was reasonable actions by the officers to act the way they did. meanwhile, the attorneys for the victims and four others claim it was not an accident, that they were defenseless and should not be granted qualified immunity of the law. here's what both sides had to say. >> what it means is the simple fact that our rights have been violated. those young men are tie to us as a family -- are tied to us as

for this growhouse. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> and to the latest on san francisco muni. it's back up and running after a transformer problem shut down everything for hours. ktvu aalex savidge live at the -- ktvu's alex savidge is live at the van ness station. what do you know? >> reporter: well, right here on market street, i did an interview with the mta spokesperson, he came out here and updated the situation. he says computers who use subway systems can expect a smooth right. all of the issues has been resolved. he tells me all of their trains are running on their regular schedules. let me show you the scene inside the van ness station. all of the trains again moving this morning. there was a shutdown, though, last night. it was about 6:00 when the entire subway system stopped because of a blown transformer at the van ness station. crews had to work throughout the night to fix the problem. and then finally at 1:30 this morning, they had everybody up and running again. with all of the subways out of service. you can imagine it was a major hassle for tens of thousands of commuters.
, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. >>> a man walking to a liquor store was among four people shot near oakland's lake merritt. investigators recovered dozens of shell casings at two separate crime scenes. at 10:30, officers were called to east 18th street. three people in their 20s have been shot there. two men and a woman. meanwhile, a stray bullet had wounded an apparent innocent bystander, heading to a liquor store a few blocks away. all of the victims are recovering in the hospital this morning. coming up at 7:30 a live report on what kind of weapons police think were used in this attack. >>> 7:03. grab an umbrella. we have rain. more of it moving into the bay area, coming down pretty good causing problems all over the bay area. ktvu's brian flores is live near larkspur right there. i can see you're wet. coming down pretty good. >> reporter: yeah, probably about a couple of minutes ago, dave, the rain started pouring pretty good here. yeah, but steve's been talking about it all morning. we're not expecting huge rain amounts from this storm but the ground is saturated from the
problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the
view drive will remain closed. we are liveness morning in lafayette alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >>> classes at a marin county middle school are canceled because of a weekend storm. white hill middle school suffered significant flooding damage. the principal also says much of the campus is covered in mud. school officials have not yet decided when classes will resume. >>> this morning people who live in napa county are keeping a close eye on the napa river. the river is expected to stay below flood stage while the flooding isn't as bad as many people feared, several feet of water are covering a peach orchard. the water also flooded roads and vineyards. >> pretty flooded coming down deer park and silver are doe and deer park where the peach trees are. >> one of the hardest hit areas was mount st. helena. forecasters say the russian river won't jump its banks afterall. a flood warning has been canceled. sonoma county had opened an emergency center but it has clayed after -- has closed after the danger passed. coming up the damage done at a mobile home park in vallejo. >>> hundreds
